Culture over consumption on Black Friday 2022

What is this task trying to achieve?

Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year. The 2022 date is Friday 25 November. Shops reduce prices and sell as much as they can.

We live in a time of over-consumption, and it’s ruining our planet. We do not have enough resources to continue to live like this.

The point of this task is to encourage us to reduce our material consumption, and to instead spend our money supporting culture.

How should I do it?

  1. Shops use big discounts to encourage us to buy things on Black Friday. Before buying something, ask yourself: do I really need it? Can I really justify contributing to the destruction of our planet?

  2. Work out how much money you were going to spend that day.

  3. Donate that money to a cultural organisation instead. For example, you could:

    1. Buy a live-streamed concert ticket

    2. Donate the money to the organisation

    3. Buy a Christmas present for someone from there (a concert voucher?)
