April 2024

Task taken on:

My April task is to give our balcony a revamp and plant one or two pots with perennials that pollinators like.

Completed?

.

March 2024

Task taken on:

.My task for March is to use less online delivery services - both for food and clothes!

Completed?

My March task of using less online delivery services (both for clothing and food) went well! I’m still trying to avoid buying new clothes and buying them second hand for example on Vinted.

February 2024

Task taken on:

My task for February is to start buying big refills for household items such as antibacterial spray/shower gel etc so that I don’t end up buying much more plastic than I need to.

Completed?

My Feb task went relatively well and I managed to get a few refill items but will try to carry on with this task through the year and also finding a no-packaging alternative.

January 2024

Task taken on:

My January task is small but a hard one to stick with - I want to try to be consistent at bringing my own water bottle/reusable coffee flask out and about especially when I go to work so I don’t end up buying any plastic bottles/paper coffee cups!

Completed?

My task for January went well, I was much better at remembering to bring my own water bottle/coffee flask!

December 2023

Task taken on:

To try and be as eco-friendly as I can around Christmas, for example using recycled wrapping paper and buying gifts from more local shops or buying second hand (World of Books is great for this!)

Completed?

My December task went quite well, I managed to use a lot of recycled Christmas wrapping paper and I bought a lot of gifts from World of Books. Would still like to improve on this in general for gift buying in 2024!

November 2023

Task taken on:

My task for November is to be more concerned with food waste! I find myself having to throw out food quite frequently, especially when I’m just on my own, so I will try to be more conscientious with what I buy/what I can freeze etc.

Completed?

I’ve been much better with not wasting food this month and been making better use of my freezer! It’s hard to do especially when you’re not always at home but if you put a bit of effort in it can work and is much cheaper!

October 2023

Task taken on:

To avoid using Uber or Bolt and take the public transport/walking route. Usually I’m ok at this but recently I have become a bit too lax!

Completed?

My October task of not taking any Ubers was more difficult than I expected… I slipped up twice but I would sadly put that down to being on my own at night in London and not feeling great about the walking/public transport route! However I definitely took less Ubers than I would usually and ended up walking a lot more which I’ll continue to do.

September 2023

Task taken on:

To use Vinted for my clothes shopping. Vinted is a second-hand shopping app which I have discovered and got slightly obsessed with!

Completed?

I’m really enjoying using Vinted for clothes shopping and actually bought my sisters birthday present on there too. It has actually saved me a lot of money as well as being a better option for the environment!

August 2023

Task taken on:

Cut down on buying new books, and instead do more book swaps with friends/family!

Completed?

Yes! I didn’t buy any new books and loved swapping books with my friend Tara. We luckily have very similar tastes! There is also a bookswap service in our closest station (Acton Central) which we’ve used a lot.

July 2023

Task taken on:

Visit more natural spaces.

Completed?

I visited my local park a lot but definitely didn’t do this task as much as I would’ve liked to so would like to try this one again at some point! Here’s a couple of photos of the park:

June 2023

Task taken on:

Task for June - to ditch makeup wipes once and for all! And really commit to using an eco-friendly alternative, which will include using Tropic products. Tropic’s skincare is all vegan and cruelty free. It is a carbon-neutral certified company and they have planted their own climate change-resistant forest in the UK. Here’s the link to their website: tropicskincare.com

Completed?

I wasn’t as successful as I would have liked to be with my June task! Although I’ve got the Tropic products, being away a lot meant I ended up using makeup wipes for ease, although luckily they were biodegradable. But I have now fully made the switch to the Tropic products, so I’ll try to be consistent!

May 2023

Task taken on:

Task for May - a digital cleanse. Getting rid of unused apps and files on my phone/computer!

Completed?

It went well - I deleted 15 apps that I wasn’t using. I couldn’t believe how many I had on my phone which I had totally forgotten about. I also made the switch to Ecosia.

April 2023

Task taken on:

With a bit more time at home this month I will try harder with making veggie/vegan recipes. I’m also going to plant a pot on our balcony with flowers that pollinators like!

Completed?

I have planted a hanging basket on our balcony full of plants that pollinators like; Arizona beggarticks, garden verbena and Bacopa. I also discovered an amazing plant app called PictureThis where you can scan plants to find their ideal care plan to make them as healthy as possible for pollinators.

March 2023

Task taken on:

To learn as many new vegetarian recipes as possible!

Completed?

Sadly I wasn’t so impressed with myself at my March task!! I was working away and ended up not cooking a lot last month. I did however make a few recipes that I’ll definitely be repeating. This one was my fave! I also did make the switch finally to Ecosia which is something I had lazily put off.

 February 2023

Task taken on:

My task for Feb: to not buy from any fast fashion brands (particularly ASOS!)

Completed?

I managed to not give into temptation and buy from any fast fashion brands… especially ASOS which I would say was the most difficult as they make it so easy and it’s usually the first place I turn when I need new items e.g concert clothes. However after reading up about fast fashion, I was shocked with quite how bad it is for the environment.
